CONVOY FOR A CURE TO HOLD FIRST U.S. EVENT
Convoy on October 24, 2009 Will Help in the Fight against Breast Cancer

City, State - Date - On October 24th, female truckers will come together to help drive out breast cancer by participating in the first U.S.-based  Convoy for a Cure, a one-day fundraising event for female drivers and those in the transportation industry.   The convoy will take place at the Willie's Place at Carl's Corner Truck Stop near Hillsboro, Texas, and is being organized by Cindy Stowe, a 16-year veteran of the trucking industry and driver for FFE Transportation Services.

The first all-female Convoy for a Cure took place on October 18, 2008, in Ontario, Canada.  The event, which was organized by Rachele Champage, raised nearly $15,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  Based on the success and the positive response from female truckers, Convoy for a Cure will expand to four events this October, with three in Canada (Ontario, Alberta and New Brunswick) as well as the one near Hillsboro, Texas.

"There are 2.5 million women in the U.S. who have survived breast cancer, and this convoy will honor those who have beaten the disease as well as those who have been lost to it," said Stowe.  "Female truckers face many challenges out on the road, and we hope that someday breast cancer will no longer be one of them.  The Convoy for a Cure is our way of working together to do something good for the women and families who have been affected by breast cancer."

According to BreastCancer.org, breast cancer will affect one in eight women in the U.S., making it the most common form of cancer in women aside from non-melanoma skin cancer.  Each year, an estimated 182,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., and approximately 41,000 women will die from the disease.

The Convoy for a Cure will feature a one-hour ride, and will be followed by health screenings, entertainment and prizes.  Johnny Bush, a Texas Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, will perform at the Night Life Theater at the Carl's Corner Truck Stop.  Tickets to the concert are included in the registration fees, which are $75 per driver.

Sponsors of the Convoy for a Cure include Freightliner Trucks, FFE Transportation Services and The Trucker.

Truckers interested in registering for the event or pledging a donation to the Convoy for a Cure can contact Cindy Stowe or visit www.convoyforacureusa.com.
