2nd Annual Healthy Trucking Summit is Another HUGE SUCCESS for Healthy Trucking Association of America

ATLANTA – The Healthy Trucking Association of America (HTAA), a nationwide non-profit dedicated to building a healthier trucking industry, is pleased to announce the success of their Second Annual Healthy Trucking Summit. The HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit recently convened to discuss the latest trends and research regarding how to improve the overall health and wellness of the trucking industry.

This year’s conference, held at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center Feb. 2-4, was attended by trucking industry leaders and health and wellness experts from across the country.

“We are very pleased that so many trucking industry leaders and corporate sponsors have stepped up to the plate to support the HTAA’s efforts to help professional drivers become healthier and live longer lives,” says Brett Blowers, Director of Marketing for the HTAA.  “Attendance at this event has doubled since last year, and we see every indication that it will double again next year. This validates the good work we’ve undertaken at the HTAA and shows that the trucking industry believes in what we’re doing.”

The HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit was originally established in 2009 to address the pressing need for improved driver health. Since that time, the mission of the Healthy Trucking Association of America has received incredible support from trucking fleets, trucking associations and businesses throughout the country.

The 2010 HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit featured sessions on driver wellness, sleep disorders among professional drivers and special presentations from Dr. John T. Kelly, Chairman of the HTAA Health and Medical Advisory Board, and Dr. Mary D. Gunnels, Director of Medical Operations for the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Some of the trucking fleets represented at the Summit include J.B. Hunt, U.S. Xpress, Greatwide Dedicated Transport, NFI, C.R. England, Landstar, Saia, Universal Truckload Services, Graebel Van Lines, Knight Transportation, Premier Transportation, Prime, Oakley Trucking, The Waggoners Trucking and Air Products.

Trucking fleets or product and services companies that would like to attend the next HTAA Healthy Trucking Summit are encouraged to get involved with the Healthy Trucking Association of America through trucking fleet membership and corporate sponsorship. About HTAA

The Healthy Trucking Association of America was established as a result of alarming statistics concerning the unhealthiness of the professional truck driver population. Current statistics show that over-the-road professionals have an average life expectancy of less than 61 years and exhibit well above average occurrences of a wide variety of ailments and conditions, including high blood pressure, sleep apnea and obesity to name a few.   The HTAA offers programs to improve the health of professional drivers and has quickly evolved into the leading authority on driver health and wellness issues.

The mission of the Healthy Trucking Association of America is promoted via multiple lines of communication, including representation at all major transportation trade shows, their annual Healthy Trucking Summit, Health and Wellness Pavilions at GATS and GWTS, Healthy Trucking Brunches, an interactive website, a variety of digital media vehicles, a monthly newsletter, and the official monthly magazine of the HTAA, Driver HEALTH; which is the only magazine dedicated to the health and wellness of drivers.
